Police: GPS tracking system placed on car then removed led to hospital parking garage closure
A Danbury man has been arrested in connection with a stalking investigation that originated from suspicious device call, police say.
On Nov. 6, Danbury police and fire, City of Danbury Office of Emergency Management and the Stamford Bomb Squad responded to the Rizzo Parking Garage at Danbury Hospital for a report of a suspicious package.
As a precaution, the area was secured and the garage was briefly closed. It was determined that the package was actually an electronic device attached to a wall. The bomb squad found the device to be non-hazardous.
An investigation determined that the device was a GPS tracking system and that German Lopez-Ortiz placed it on a vehicle as part of a domestic stalking incident.
Police say the vehicle's owner found the device but did not know what it was. They removed it from the vehicle and placed it in the garage. Lopez-Ortiz has been charged with electric stalking and held on a $100,000 bond.
