Police say a hijacked Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus crashed into a telephone pole in Queens and took down several power lines, leaving dozens in the dark Thursday.

Fire officials say the crash happened on Linden Boulevard in Cambria Heights. Con Edison says roughly 68 customers were left without power.

Police say a 44-year-old man armed with a BB gun made his way onto the bus at 7:23 a.m. The driver stopped the bus and opened the doors to let passengers off the bus. According to police, the suspect made statements that he was being chased and told the bus driver to keep driving.

At around 7:36 a.m., the driver jumped out of the driver seat at 232nd Street and Linden Boulevard. The suspect allegedly attempted to take control of the bus but struck a utility pole at 233rd and 234th streets.

The suspect exited the bus and was apprehended by police.

The driver and suspect were removed to hospitals for minor injuries. Charges against the suspect are pending.
