Police have caught a man accused of striking a police officer with a car during a traffic stop and fleeing the scene Thursday morning on West 182nd Street.
The NYPD says a police officer from the 52nd Precinct pulled Robert Rivera over for having illegal tinted windows at 10 a.m. when he discovered Rivera had an open warrant.
Police say Rivera then got into a struggle with the officer and the officer tried to subdue the suspect with a stun gun before he sped off in a Black Toyota Camry.
Officials say Rivera left the vehicle a block away from the scene near Davidson Avenue.
Police say the officer was transported to the hospital with injuries to both of his ankles and is expected to be OK.
Police say Rivera was also taken to a hospital after being apprehended to check on any possible injuries from the stun gun.
