A bear that was spotted roaming throughout Pleasantville on Sunday was safely tranquilized and secured, according to the post on the village's Facebook page.

The bear was handed over to the state Department of Environmental Conservation, according to the Town of Mount Pleasant, whose police department also assisted in safely securing the animal.

Pleasantville also thanked the Westchester County Police Department, the state Department of Environmental Conservation, and village police "for their coordinated efforts in tracking the bear and ensuring its safe relocation."

Earlier on Sunday, police kept up with the movements of the black bear that was spotted Sunday morning.

Officers kept a watchful eye on the animal to ensure that it didn't escape a perimeter that was set up in the backyard of a home near Marble Avenue and Hobby Street.
