Police say a machete-wielding man is dead after approaching officers and injuring a woman and her dog Tuesday night.

Police say the man was chasing people and damaging cars near Dumont Avenue at around 6 p.m.

Darlene Duda, 50, was walking her dog when she was attacked by the man and suffered deep cuts on her hands and a head injury, according to police.

They say the woman's dog was also attacked by the man. They are both expected to recover.

Duda received some stitches and was expected to be discharged from the hospital Wednesday night. Duda is a mother of three and a grandmother. Her daughter tells News 12 they moved to Brooklyn a few years ago and never had any issues.

She says Duda will need surgery but could not get it right away because they needed to make sure there wasn’t an infection from the blade.

An eyewitness video captured the victim screaming after she and her dog were injured.

Police have not released the identity of the 18-year-old man who is seen waving a machete and tormenting random people on the block.

Authorities say officers tried to stop the suspect and commanded him to drop the machete, but instead he charged at them. They say that’s when an officer shot the man in the chest.

Eyewitness video shows authorities giving him compressions in the middle of the street, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

This is the second police-involved shooting reported in the last two days in Brooklyn.
