A man fired five shots through the front door of an apartment on the second floor of a University Heights building Wednesday, according to police.
Police say they received a call about a man creating a disturbance just before noon.
The building's superintendent, Willie Clarke, says that the man involved is the stepson of a longtime resident of the building.
Clarke tells News 12 he isn’t sure what caused the disturbance but that the tenant involved attempted to get the suspect to leave the building once he realized that the man had a gun.
He tells News 12 he hasn’t had any issues in the past. The suspect is now in custody, according to police.
Clarke says the man tried to escape law enforcement by climbing out onto the fire escape but was taken by officers.
Police say the man was taken to the hospital.
