Police say a man was hit by a car overnight in Highbridge.
According to the NYPD, the 47-year-old man was hit in front of 279 E. 173rd St just after 1 a.m. near the intersection of Shakespeare and Anderson avenues. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition with a head injury.
Law enforcement officials say the 47-year-old was riding a two-wheeled vehicle heading south on Shakespeare Avenue when he was struck by a driver who left the scene.
According to residents in the Highbridge neighborhood, the victim was a delivery driver for a nearby restaurant and lived in the area.
This marks the second accident on this street in two days - a 60-year-old man was fatally struck by a car near the intersection of Jerome and Shakespeare Avenues on Saturday night.
"It's a dark area," said neighbor Shevinah. "I believe they should have lights there so people can see who is coming and who's going, that's a dangerous spot as it is."
No arrests have been made at this time.
