Surveillance video shows a man nearly catching fire after police say he intentionally set a blaze at a Staten Island gas station.
The incident happened Monday at the 7-Eleven on Richmond Avenue just before 2 a.m.
Video shows the suspect filling a plastic gas tank with gasoline before suddenly spraying the hose at the pump and lighting a piece of paper on fire.
The man appears to almost catch on fire in the process before jumping into a car and driving away.
The video also shows the station's fire suppression system putting out the flames shortly after the blaze.
Police say a man who was near the fire suffered respiratory injuries and is in serious but stable condition at the hospital.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-800-577-TIPS.
