A man is dead and three others, including an 11-year-old, are injured following a shooting Saturday evening inside Claremont Park, police say.
Police tell News 12 it happened near Teller Avenue and Mount Eden Parkway around 11:15 p.m.
They found an 11-year-old boy who had been shot in the shoulder, a 24-year-old woman shot twice in the torso, a 22-year-old man also struck in the torso and another 22-year-old man hit in the leg.
The man shot in the torso was taken to the hospital where he died.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition and the other man is in stable condition.
The child is expected to be OK.
The incident come after lawmakers met in Morrisania to call for $5 billion of funding to go toward community violence intervention programs.
That meeting occurred following a violent Labor Day weekend where seven people were killed in the borough.
Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa says parks need better surveillance.
“Where the hell are the police cameras?” Sliwa says. “If nothing more, a deterrent because people will know that there are cameras in the park.”
In May, a 17-year-old was shot and killed near Claremont Park.
Neighbors say a large party was taking place when the shooting happened. Bottles, lawn chairs, trash and pinatas were left behind. Those who live in the area say the violence needs to stop.
“This is crazy,” one resident told News 12. “Everybody wants to come out and have a good time. We need to start valuing lives.”
No arrests have been made. Police say they are looking for a white Nissan Maxima with Texas license plates.
