A man was fatally shot in the Tremont section of the Bronx Sunday evening, police say.

The incident happened just before midnight at East 179th Street. The street was closed on both sides for several hours while police were investigating.

When police arrived to the scene, they say the victim was already unconscious and unresponsive with gunshot wounds to his chest and arm.

The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers have put down at least 12 markers on the ground, which could indicate the number of bullet casings found.

News 12 has seen officers paying close attention to the stairs leading to an apartment building at 617 E. 179th St.

A super who works in a nearby building tells News 12 he heard at least two rounds of gunshots.

Police say no arrests have been made, and they have not released any information about the suspect in connection to the shooting.
