NYPD precincts and the people they serve came together Tuesday for the National Night Out.

More than 70 locations citywide held National Night Out events. The day was also observed in more than 16,000 communities nationwide, as well as in U.S. territories and military installations.

In Belmont, the 48th Precinct cooked for the community and provided entertainment. Mayor Bill de Blasio and high-ranking police officials were in attendance.

The NYPD reported in late June that the 48th Precinct had seen a 125 percent increase in 2018 homicides compared with the same time period last year.

Each precinct has its own way of celebrating the day, in an effort to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support and strengthen community relations.

National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday of August each year.
