The first of the five people in the Bronx robbed by a knife-wielding man in the past few weeks says he tried to fight back during the attack.
Jose Perez says he stopped on his way to work and briefly spoke with a man who then stabbed him seven times in the back just outside his apartment building.
Perez says he tried to take the knife from his attacker but failed. He did manage to get it out of the assailant's hand, and that gave him an opening to flee.
Surveillance video shows that attack. Police say the suspect is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and somewhere between 17 and 28 years old.
The other robberies all took place within several blocks, according to police. They say the suspect stole around $250 and three cellphones.
At least one other victim suffered a slash wound from a knife.
