Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested and charged with DWI in Sag Harbor early Tuesday, police say.
According to court documents, Timberlake was driving on Madison Street at about 12:37 a.m. when he was observed by an officer failing to stay in his lane and blowing through a stop sign.
Police said Timberlake's eyes were bloodshot and glassy and a strong odor of alcohol was emanating from his breath. He was “unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.”
According to the court document, Timberlake told police during the traffic stop: "I had one martini and I followed my friends home."
According to police, Timberlake was taken into custody and brought to Sag Harbor Police headquarters. There, he said he would not take a chemical test and rejected requests to do so three times.
Long Islander and fellow singer Billy Joel was eating at the same restaurant Tuesday that Timberlake reportedly was at. In response to the accusations against Timberlake, he said, "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
Residents in Sag Harbor said that celebrities should be held to the same safety standards that everyone is.
"In today's day in age with technology and Uber, especially someone like Justin, there's no excuse to get behind the wheel," said Sam Pezz, of Sag Harbor.
Timberlake was arraigned at Sag Harbor Village Court, was processed and released. He is due back in court on July 26.
