Power of song helps heal patients in recovery at Montefiore's Comprehensive Center
A group of patients in recovery at Montefiore's Comprehensive Center say a few songs are teaching them how music expresses what can't be said.
While it's not your typical choir, the sounds of the season are being sung by patients.
Patient Debora Murphy says the thought of performing was a fading dream, but the newly performed choir group proved she still had a voice to belt out.
"I couldn't walk, I couldn't talk, I thought that was it. I thought there was no help for that," said Murphy.
The Montefiore Melodies group was put together by speech pathologist Ann Clifford, and music therapist Ann Alissa Vicencio.
Both of them found that the power of a song could help heal and help patients in recovery.
Murphy says walking into her third choir practice gave her more than just a way to express herself.
