A group of preschoolers in the borough took to the streets to bring attention to the lack of clean water in many communities around the world.
Preschoolers at the Garden of Learning and Discovery Pre-K Center in High Bridge have been learning about water conservation for the last few months, pledging to use reusable water bottles, planting gardens and learning about kids who don't have access to clean drinking water.
"What we wanted to do is raise awareness about the scarcity of water throughout our international communities, making sure our children in pre-K know that there are 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds that have to walk miles every single day, " said Principal Roxanne Batista.
The children walked across the High Bridge, which once transported water between Manhattan and the Bronx, to bring awareness to the global water crisis.
The school partnered with the We Movement, which helps organize activism across the country. The organization says that more than 840 million people worldwide are living without access to clean water, and 40% of the world's population is affected by water scarcity.
Those at the school say the walk was a culmination of months of conservation efforts, and teachers say kids are never too young to learn about activism.
