Some parents say they're unhappy with a proposal to combine two Unionport schools.
Superintendent Dr. Karen Ames, of District 8, has proposed combining J.H.S. 125 Henry Hudson School and Blueprint Middle School, which already occupy the same building.
"By merging or consolidating two schools back into one school, there's a savings when you share or reappropriate resources," Ames says.
Parents say there was no mention of a possible consolidation at the beginning of the school year, but Ames says a merger makes sense.
"Both schools were struggling in terms of student enrollment and both schools were struggling in terms of student achievement," she says.
Parents say the potential move causes worry about their children's future. They met with Ames Monday to voice their concerns.
"We want to have a voice and have a say what happens to our schools and our children," says parent Wendy Molloy.
Parents are also wondering what will happen to administration and teachers. They say they just want what's best for their kids.
News 12 did not immediately hear back from the superintendent's office and Department of Education to find out if there will be a vote on the move.
