A proposed group home is causing controversy in Throgs Neck.
Residents say that while it is already difficult to park on Gifford Avenue, adding the home for young women with disabilities, its staff and vehicles for its services would drastically affect their lives.
Community Board 10 held an open meeting Tuesday night where residents were able to address their concerns about the proposed home.
The home would house five to six young females with disabilities moving back to the neighborhood. A representative for the home says staff would be working around the clock, and several vans would help with day-to-day work.
Most board members came to a similar conclusion, saying they support what the home does, but they are not keen on the location. Members even suggested they would help an alternative location for the group home.
The home has not yet been purchased, and the board has 40 days to help possibly relocate it and recommend whether it should be located in the Gifford Avenue facility.
