AAA estimates that 32% of Americans are planning to travel this weekend, and the majority are planning to drive.
They also anticipate half a million vehicle breakdowns to occur across the nation.
Since they expect most of those breakdowns to be a result of dead batteries and flat tires, AAA recommends people do a quick car checkup before they leave.
According to Gasbuddy.com, the cheapest gas in the Bronx is located at the Citgo on 1225 East 233rd St. for $3.69 per gallon. In Brooklyn, the best price available is at Mobil on 2000 Rockaway Parkway for $3.57
Sandy from Canarsie is among the millions of Americans planning to travel for the weekend. She says gas prices are definitely a concern for her trip to Pennsylvania.
“It's so high, but right here it's 3.57 and I’m happy because usually it's 4-something. It's getting better, hopefully it goes down even more,” she says.
A man traveling to Red Hook for his birthday says he won’t let the prices get him down.
“I'm trying not to let it impact me because if you sit there and stare at it, you gonna get upset; what you going to do about it? Hopefully everything will calm down soon,” he said. "We still have to travel and see our family.”
