District 17 in the Bronx will have a new city councilman next week.
Rafael Salamanca Jr. will be sworn in as the new District 17 councilman on Wednesday at the City Council meeting.
Councilman-elect Salamanca won the 17th District seat in a special election last month. He is taking the post after Maria Del Carmen Arroyo stepped down last year.
District 17 represents people in neighborhoods including Hunts Point, Port Morris, Morrisania and Crotona Park East.
Salamanca says he's already identified issues he is ready to tackle, including NYCHA developments.
"You know the NYCHA development constituents do not feel safe and when I walked through those hallways, I felt their concerns," says Salamanca.
Salamanca adds that he wants to work with the other candidates that had been vying for the City Council seat.
"I want to bring them in. Just because I won this race doesn't mean that I can't be inclusive and really speak to them and speak to them about some of their ideas and see how we can work together," says Salamanca.
