Seniors in Allerton were vaccinated against the coronavirus
at the Rain Community Center Saturday.
The senior center is partnering with SOMOS, formerly
Advocate Community Providers, and New York State Department of Health to
provide vaccines until 5 p.m.
The center says the event is for older adults, the more
vulnerable population, to get protection against the virus.
President of Boston Road Projects Resident Association
Laurenne Talbert, known as
“Pepper,” says some people were
hesitant about receiving the vaccine at first.
“There has been a lot of fear and emotions regarding the
vaccines, but a good portion of them want it and their fear was, ‘I’m not going to be to get it,
I’m not going to be able to find a location.’”
Pepper says pop-up
vaccination sites like the one at Rain Community Center help ease fears and
educates people about the vaccine.
