WARMING UP: The weekend winter shock is moving out of the borough over the next couple of days, replaced by warmth and a dose of heavy rain. It felt like single digits Wednesday morning, with highs stuck in the 30s on Monday. The 50s return Tuesday, and possibly a run at 60 degrees on Wednesday. That is when the dry streak comes to an end.
STORMY WEDNESDAY: Much-needed rain is expected, as parts of the city are back to a severe drought. Unfortunately, it is only a brief burst of heavy rain, and at the worst possible time — during the evening commute. Rain showers move in as early as 3 p.m. from west to east, getting steadier and heavier through 6 p.m. Expect a line of strong to possibly severe thunderstorms around 6-7 p.m. that could bring damaging gusts and downpours. Gusts could exceed 50 mph, so secure loose items and watch out for downed tree branches or twigs.
REST OF THE WEEK: This is a fast-moving line of heavy rain and storms, so the storm is wrapping up before midnight. The wind remains behind the storm, with 30 mph gusts likely through the end of the workweek. It will get colder through Friday, with highs returning to typical early-March levels, in the middle 40s. There is a low chance of some rain on Saturday but expect the storm to miss us at this early stage.
A quick sneak peek at next week shows a chance for a late-Spring surge of warmth with 70-degree high temperatures possible by midweek next week. Stay tuned and follow Allan, @AWxNYC for storm and warm weather updates.
