Highs again are struggling to reach the freezing mark today, with gusts of 30 mph most of the day.
There will be one more frigid night ahead overnight, with lows near 22 degrees, feeling like the teens.
Gusts are expected to slowly taper off through the night and into Thursday.
It will again be a struggle to reach freezing on Thursday, but it will feel a touch warmer, into the 20s. A rapid recovery begins Friday, with highs surging to near-40 degrees and a much lighter wind, making it feel noticeably warmer.
That sets the stage for a weak storm for the second half of Saturday with rain on-and-off and highs approaching 50 degrees. Behind the Saturday storm, a second storm likely forms right on its heels, with potential snow Sunday evening.
The intensity of this storm will determine the track and the impacts to expect in the borough.
There are currently two scenarios. A stronger storm would directly hit us with the potential for a few inches of snow. A weaker storm gets shoved south with no snow. That scenario would be another case of "too cold to snow" like previous storms this month.
What is becoming clearer is a massive surge of extreme cold next Tuesday and Wednesday, and it could be the coldest weather all season.
There is potential for actual temperatures to dip to single digits Tuesday and Wednesday morning next week. Feels like temperatures could also dip below zero. It's too soon to know those specifics but do know the threat is there for very dangerous cold.
At the tail end of the cold shot, coming from Siberia, another storm is possible, but again, it is way too far out to know where or how strong the storm could be. Stay tuned for updates throughout the week.
