An Allerton laundromat is being forced to close down due to financial problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Reda Cleaners has been a staple on Allerton Avenue for 47 years, but the Bronx dry cleaners has now fallen behind on its rent due to a slowdown in business.
"I fought as much as I could and now like I said, the coronavirus has gotten a hold of a lot of people like me," says Reda Cleaners owner Michael Ragusa.
Ragusa says he doesn't see his business picking up again as the coronavirus lingers on across the nation.
The laundromat owner says he can remember working late into the night before coming back the next day.
"It must have been the 80s because I remember coming here and being very busy," Ragusa says. "I had a couple of pressers at the time and I mean, I worked so hard I would go home, eat dinner, then come back and do some tailoring until 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. that night."
