There are renewed calls for information on the anniversary of a cold case in Orange County that has remained unsolved for 14 years.

Highland Falls mother Petra Muhammad disappeared under suspicious circumstances in January 2006.

Authorities say the 30-year-old was divorcing her husband, William Muhammad, and was in the process of moving out when she disappeared.

"When Petra was reported missing, it struck us as one of those unusual cases. She just fell off the face of the Earth,” said Highland Falls Police Chief Ken Scott.

Petra Muhammad had a restraining order for allegations of domestic violence and child abuse against her husband.

Police say William Muhammad, who remains a person of interest, was uncooperative and claimed she left the country. Authorities never believed this theory because they say Petra Muhammad left behind her passport, identification, clothes and her son.

Police say they found pictures with Petra Muhammad’s face cut out of them, and a doll with a noose around its neck inside the family's home. They add that there were no signs of foul play and nothing to charge her husband, who was last reported living in New Jersey with her now 17-year-old son.
