Rep. Richie Torres shared his thoughts on gun safety compromise on Friday.
Torres discussed how enforcing safer gun protocols and laws can help to get guns out of the hands of dangerous people, and what it will take for him to vote on the compromise if it reaches on the floor of the House of Representatives.
"In a rational world, both chambers of congress would pass legislation that would mandate universal background checks and ban ar-15, assault rifles, high-capacity magazines,” he said. “But none of those proposals could ever survive a filibuster in the senate. And so,the compromise represents the best way forward in the short term."
Torres says he will support the compromise, despite the gun safety compromise bringing in split feedback from house senators.
