Residents claim call to fix unsafe sidewalk has been met with deaf ears
Residents say that their requests to fix a filthy and broken sidewalk in Eastchester has been ignored for years.
Jarvis Bautista says walking down the sidewalk on Dyre Avenue is next to impossible, and says the garbage, broken concrete and debris not only make it ugly, but unsafe.
Bautista says he reached out to 311 several times, but it hasn’t responded.
He and the people in the neighborhood say this has been an ongoing issue for more than 20 years, and it makes them feel like the community are being neglected.
News 12 has reached out to the Department of Transportation which deals with issues like these, and it said it has "received a broken sidewalk complaint for the street and will inspect the block".
The Department of Sanitation released a statement saying “We are aware of this location and have addressed it numerous times, including July 20 and June 20 and June 19. Additionally, we conducted a cleaning today and will return tomorrow."
