Residents at the Harry Silver Houses in East Flatbush say at least four elevators have been out of service since February, leaving some people trapped in their homes.
The site manager says they are repairing all of the elevators because they are almost 40 years old.
"They were dangerous, they kept shutting down, people kept getting caught in them, having to call the fire department to release them," Aviance Carrington said.
She also says porters are using a chair lift to bring people up and down the stairs.
Seniors say they have groceries to get, laundry to do and doctor appointments they can't miss. They are calling on management to do more to get these elevators up and running, or find a way to accommodate residents.
The site manager says one elevator is back in service and the other three are currently undergoing repairs. They should be back up and running by the end of this month and next.
