Some tenants of an apartment building in Mott Haven say they were forced to evacuate Friday after the building was deemed dangerous to inhabit.
Residents at 212 Willis Ave. say that repairs in their building have been neglected for years. They were placed in a hotel by the Red Cross, but when some returned to their apartments the following day to gather more belongings, they say some of their valuables were gone.
Some residents say their valuables were not protected overnight and only after they reported the items stolen to the police was a lock placed on the front door.
News 12 reached out to the landlord of the building, who denied he was the owner. He said he had no comment on the situation.
Tenants say the man, who goes by the name Sam, has been avoiding their calls all weekend long and doesn't care about their situation.
The tenants' hotel stay expires Monday, but they are scheduled to meet with the Red Cross and hope to talk to building management.
