A new homeless shelter coming to Parkchester has residents concerned about who might be moving into the neighborhood.
The Department of Homeless Services says it is opening a new shelter at 2008 Westchester Ave. as part of Mayor de Blasio's "Turning the Tide" initiative. In a statement, the DHS tells News 12 that 170 employed and employable individuals from the Bronx will live at the new shelter -- in close proximity to their jobs and support networks -- as they get back on their feet.
Residents say they want more clarity as to who will be moving into their community. The NYPD will oversee security inside the shelter and those who live there will have a curfew.
