After removing its electric mopeds from the Bronx due to battery thefts across the borough, Revel is back in the Bronx with a new coverage plan to combat those thefts.
Revel says it is limiting coverage service only to the western section of the borough, from Fordham Road to Concourse Village. The company suspended its service in the Bronx for 15 months because of an increase in thefts of the mopeds’ lithium-ion batteries.
A representative from Revel says that there are currently 30 to 40 mopeds available in the western Bronx.
“I use it in Manhattan,” said Charlie Norris, who works in Concourse Village. “It’s a great way to get around, it’s fun, if it helps people get around it’s good.”
Others say they aren’t fans of the return of the electric moped service, saying some ride recklessly or ditch them on sidewalks.
Revel says they currently average around 100 rides per day in the Bronx.
