The ribbon was cut on the new Aldi grocery store in Fairfield today.
Aldi now replaces the former Kohl's building on Tunxis Hill Cutoff which closed last fall during the pandemic.
The line was out the door before the location officially opened this morning.
First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick says there's been a lot of ribbon-cuttings in town lately.
"We've been cutting a lot of ribbons in Fairfield lately, which makes me very excited because that means that Fairfield is thriving and growing. And so, their success is Fairfield's success," Kupchick says.
Aldi shares the property with Floor & Decor, which opened last month.
Just an hour after opening, more than 100 people filled the aisles and checkout lines.
The grocery chain will now be competing against the five other big-name grocery stores in town.
Aldi is open Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
