The long-awaited reconstruction of a Bronx plaza was finished Tuesday.

City Councilman Jimmy Vacca joined community members and the Parks Department to cut the ribbon at the revamped Amendola Plaza.

The almost $1 million project was hit with several delays since work started on it.

"The community wanted to know what was going on all this time. We had fences laying in the street. We had plantings that were not finished. People wanted to know, 'When are we going to finish Amendola Plaza?'" Vacca says.

Vacca blames delays on "contractor and bureaucratic issues."

"They took too much time doing it, but I think it's nice. It adds some class," says commuter Milton Schlanger.

The plaza houses the Pelham Bay Park 6 train station and nearby bus stops.

"There are thousands and thousands of people, every day, that come by here. We want to be able to give them the opportunity to be able to have a good horticultural experience here with greenery," says Bronx Parks Commissioner Iris Rodgriguez-Rosa.
