238ds agoThe Riders Alliance released a new report Tuesday on how New Yorkers would be affected if federal aid doesn't come through soon for the struggling MTA.
The MTA is in need of a $12 billion bailout from the federal government due to decreased ridership during the coronavirus pandemic.
New York state Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli says the MTA is facing its biggest budget crisis in history and is in desperate need of federal funding.
The Riders Alliance says certain groups in New York City would be disproportionately affected.
The report says that health care workers have nearly an hour commute each day.
It also estimates that New Yorkers could face an additional 15-minute wait time for subways and 30 minutes for buses commuting just one way.
Policy and Communications Director Danny Pearlstein says the impact of MTA budget cuts would be felt far beyond New York City and into the suburbs.
