Family and friends gathered at the Riverdale Jewish Center Sunday to remember the founding pillar of Chabad in Riverdale.
Marilyn Sopher was a monumental figure in Riverdale's Jewish community.
In addition to running a commercial property ownership company and brokerage firm, Sopher was devoted to helping disabled Jewish children.
Her obituary reads that every Riverdale synagogue has benefitted from her and her late husband's helping hand.
Those who knew her say she meant a lot to the whole borough.
"Philanthropy of caring, of knowing always that we're here to make the world a better place," says community member Yocheved Liss. "And it is a tremendous loss to the Jewish community, the entire Bronx community."
