A Hanukkah event in Riverdale brought together community members of all ages and faiths Wednesday.
The Riverdale Y hosted the event that Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. called significant due to the increasing rate of anti-Semitic crimes in the city.
“You can’t always be there to stop it, but I think you can prevent it. And the best way how is to get together with different communities and celebrate our diversity,” says Borough President Diaz.
Diaz was also joined by a children’s choir who sang “I Have a Little Dreidel.”
Hanukkah celebrates the re-dedication of the second temple in Jerusalem following the Maccabean Revolt.
Candles are lit to honor the original Hanukkah miracle, where a night’s worth of oil lit the temple for eight nights.
