Road
crews across Long Island are getting ready for the storm that is set to drop up
to 8 inches of snow.
News 12 Long Island’s Caroline Flynn is at the Town of Huntington yard in Elwood.
Suffolk
County Executive Steve Bellone says the tough winter has taken its toll on
county stockpiles.
“We
have about 10,000 tons of salt that's about half of where we were, so we are
depleting those supplies pretty quickly and it’s a reflection of storms we've
been having this past month,"says Bellone.
Bellone warns tonight's commute could be particularly messy and also asks
residents to stay off the roads.
Meanwhile, Nassau Executive Laura
Curran is asking drivers to take it slow today and tomorrow.
“We
saw too many accidents on the road the last couple of storms. I urge residents
if you can stay home, we've gotten pretty good at that lately, please do
so," says Curran.
Curran says Nassau has nearly 12,000 tons of salt
and 1,000 tons of sand ready to clear the
roads.
