A robbery incident at a jewelry store on Southern Boulevard left one customer with a gunshot wound, police say.
He is expected to survive.
Officers on the scene told News 12 that the victim had a gun on his person. Police say he was approached by someone who tried to steal his chain while he was inside the store before the victim took his gun. At some point, the gun went off and hit the victim in his own leg.
Nearby businesses were alerted of the incident, and some feared for their own store’s safety.
Police do not have any information as to whether or not this incident is linked to the string of smash-and-grab incidents at jewelry stores we have covered over the last week.
“They need to put extra forces out here,” says Malik the Jeweler, a business owner in the area. “There’s been so much crime in the Bronx lately, a lot of people getting robbed, a lot of jewelry stores especially. Of course we fear.”
Any information regarding this incident should be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
