Residents of the Sedgwick Houses say a putrid smell outside their building is putting a damper on their summer.
They say the smell can be described as the stench of dead animals and lingers in front of 1551 University Ave.
The city's housing authority says after assessing the area, the smell is caused by trash and debris collecting in the 10-foot deep wells on the sides of the building's entrance.
Some tenants say they've noticed the smell for at least three months and have notified the city's housing authority about the problem. They say nothing has been done.
"It smells really bad, it's hot and it reaches up to the second and third floor," says resident Jeanette Means. "People are having a hard time keeping their windows open."
In a statement about the issue, NYCHA says, "the quality of life of our residents is important – a contractor will be contacted on July 17, 2017 to open and clean the welded wells."
