Route 3 bridge over Hackensack River to get upgrades with federal infrastructure funds

New Jersey has announced the first project it will undertake to fix the state’s crumbling infrastructure.
The state will receive $12 billion from the federal government.
The first project will be upgrades to the Route 3 westbound bridge over the Hackensack River. The state will need hundreds of workers to get the project done.
"What's important to me and my members is the jobs that are going to be created. Good paying jobs,” says Ray Pocino, vice president of Laborers' International Union of North America. "What comes with that is a prevailing wage package that includes benefits, insurance, health insurance, pension fund contributions, training and apprenticeship opportunities for workers of New Jersey."
New Jersey’s transportation commissioner says that it will take two years to design the upgraded bridge before breaking ground.
