Emergency services officials from The Salvation Army say the remnants of Debbie may bring high wind gusts to the Bronx on Friday evening.
Across the Bronx, high wind gusts knocked down trees and power lines, crushing cars and leaving residents in the dark. FDNY crews were seen on Mosholu Parkway on Friday afternoon removing at least one downed tree that fell into the middle of the road near East 204th Street, bringing wires down with it.
Bob Myers, with The Salvation Army's Disaster Services, said that the extreme weather events have seemingly become more common in recent years, but that tonight's storm is no cause for panic.
“This is just another storm with maybe a little bit more rain, a little bit more gusty wind than some of the last few that we've seen over the last few months." Myers said. “Certainly, we've seen disasters increasing over the last several years and then the impacts from those disasters increasing as well.”
