The Samuel Gompers Industrial High School in Mott Haven was designated a city landmark by The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Members of the commission say the 24,000-square foot structure boasts an ornate façade and some of the most impressive art-deco details of its kind.
The building spans a block in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx on 459 Southern Blvd. and was built in the 1920s.
The school served as a career and technical high school for public school students until it closed in 2012. It now houses three different schools.
Local historians say the landmark means the building structure will be preserved.
