Family and friends gathered in Park Slope Saturday to remember the life of 19-year-old Samyia Spain who was killed on March 17.
Mourners wore Spain’s favorite colors as they said their goodbyes.
“Samyia loved to be pretty. She loved to dress up, she loved getting her lashes done, her hair done, her nails done,” said family friend Lonnie Ortega.
Witnesses told News 12 that the sisters rejected a man who tried to make advances toward them. Veo Kelly allegedly left in anger then returned and stabbed 19-year-old Samyia Spain in the neck and her twin sister in the arm. Spain died hours later at a hospital.
Days later, on March 22, 20-year-old Kelly turned himself in. He was charged with murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Spain’s friends and family say this loss will leave a scar for life as they learn to live without their favorite “dynamic duo.”
"You don't see one without the next, they're always together, always. If you see Samyia, you see her twin with her,” said Ortega.
Spain would have turned 20 on April 11.
