Search reveals vehicle that fatally struck man in Wakefield had at least 3 recent school-zone speeding tickets

News 12 has learned through open records that 2016 Chevy Silverado has received at least three tickets for speeding in a school zone over the past six weeks.

A city Department of Transportation report released Tuesday says 64-year-old SM Akhtaruzzaman was walking within the crosswalk and with the signal when he was struck by a 2016 Chevy Silverado pickup tow-truck.
That driver did not stay on scene and is still at large.
News 12 has learned through open records that 2016 Chevy Silverado has received at least three tickets for speeding in a school zone over the past six weeks.
Although no data exists for the intersection where the crash happened, city DOT studies in that neighborhood show that from 2018-2022, nearly 50% of pedestrian injuries are related to left turn crashes, like the one that happened there Monday.
