Secret Snowflake is in full swing in New York City, as many organizations are taking part in a citywide initiative that’s giving gifts to kids in need.
Miller Druck, a stone and tile contractor in the Bronx, is one of the home bases for Secret Snowflake. Part of the factory was filled with gifts for kids that are currently in the city’s Department of Homeless Services shelters.
Seven companies, including Miller Druck, bought and shipped toys to the factory for them to get picked up by DHS workers. Organizers say that 1,500 kids will be receiving presents from this Bronx location alone.
In Brooklyn, Greenlight Bookstore and its customers came together to donate nearly 600 books in both Spanish and English. Many of those books will be received at the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief centers to make their way into the hands of young readers.
The bookstore has participated in years past. It selected nine books this year for customers to purchase and donate to the cause online.
The Secret Snowflake process starts in August and serves around 8,000 kids in city shelters to make their holiday wishes come true.
