Some Bronx seniors new to the world of photography have their work on display at the Mitchell Senior Center in Mott Haven.
"Photographing My Life," an 11-week program held by the Bronx Documentary Center under the City Council's Su-Casa program, offers art classes around the city – giving seniors another way to capture the world around them.
Seniors learned how to take pictures of people, nature and even selfies. Organizers say the program helps the students build confidence.
"I had cataract surgery…I never thought I would be able to take pictures," says Josephine Bell. "I didn't think I could handle it because I'm visually impaired, but I did it."
The class is funded by the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department for the Aging, which offers art classes to more than 150 senior centers across the city.
