Serrano honored for public service at Hispanic Heritage Month event
Bronx Rep. Jose Serrano was honored Saturday for his service to the public during a Hispanic Heritage Month event in West Farms.
The South Bronx community gathered to celebrate heritage with the congressman at the center of the festivities.
Serrano recently announced he won't run for re-election after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Assemblywoman Karines Reyes took time to recognize Serrano for his commitment to the community with a proclamation.
"He is definitely leaving a legacy of service and a legacy of advocacy, a legacy of fighting for those who may not have a voice," says Reyes.
The congressman says that despite his decision to retire, he will remain a part of the community.
