Activists and politicians calling for an eviction moratorium extension were arrested at a rally outside the Senate hearing in Downtown Brooklyn Thursday morning.
The arrests followed a march from Cadman Plaza that shut down Court Street.
The protesters are calling for the eviction moratorium to be extended to at least June of 2022 and fixes to the emergency rental assistance program.
"Here we are waiting again - why is this not a priority?" says Assembly Member Marcela Mitaynes.
They're demanding elected officials, including Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, go back to the table.
"Why don't you do the right damn thing and listen to your voters listen to your constituents and extend this moratorium and cancel the rent so that we can forward like New Yorkers are supposed to do right now?" says Jamaell Henderson, chapter organizer for NY Communities for Change.
Police tell News 12 that protesters who were arrested have been charged with civil disobedience.
