Residents of 100 Erdman Place say they noticed a rush of water seeping under their apartment doors, just after 8 a.m.
"All of a sudden, you just heard water," said George P., a neighbor who lives on the floor that was flooded. "I saw water coming out of the apartment on the right side, and it was a flow that I never saw before."
Neighbors say they rushed to stuff newspaper and towels underneath their doors and along the hallway, stating that this wasn't their first time experiencing flooded apartments.
"With residents, usually flooring is damaged, your carpet," said resident, Gloria Powel. "Anything that's lying on the floor usually gets damaged."
According to the Co-op City Riverbay Corporation, the flooding was caused by a broken air conditioning coil in one of the neighbors' apartments, leaving almost 2 inches of water along the lobby and second floor.
"It displaces residents," said Gloria. "I'm worried that my apartment will get flooded, which I can't afford that to happen because water damage is very serious."
Elevator service has since been restored to the building, with a cleanup crew present to soak up any residual standing water.
