The Georgian community in Sheepshead Bay hosted a fundraiser for Ukraine Saturday.

Just over a decade ago, Georgia was also victim to a Russian invasion.

It was a full house as community members all came together in support of Ukraine. Violinist, singers, and entertainment all performed during the fundraiser.

"We want to show support to our neighbors. This is unfair," said Anna Greyer. She said her family is from what was formally known as the Soviet Union. Greyer has migrated throughout Eastern Europe and said she still has family who live in Ukraine.

"Its scary. If one day I don't hear from my family, I get nervous," Greyer said.

Solidarity could be felt and heard during the fundraiser as "I Stand with Ukraine" was chanted in Russian while performances went about.

The fundraiser was free, however, donations were accepted upon entry.

Greyer said she wanted to put the event together quickly because the people in Ukraine need help.

"This was put together very quickly. This is going to one of our medical buses that are treating wounded soldiers and residents," she explained.

The Dana Bagrationi Foundation is still accepting donations through its website and all proceeds will be going straight to Pirogov Mobile Clinic to invest in more accessibility for the wounded.
