The founder of the Borough Park Shomrim Society, a private anti-crime patrol group, has been arrested and charged for allegedly coercing a 15-year-old girl into criminal sex acts, according to court records.
The federal government is charging Jacob Daskal with coercion and enticement, transportation of minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
The community says the case is familiar. News 12 is told Daskal was brought up on similar charges in state court in 2018 for the same crimes against the same victim.
Those charges allege that he engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl he was tasked with caring for, grooming her for sexual activity.
The Department of Justice says Daskal is alleged to have had sexual relations with that girl in the summer of 2017, largely in his home and at his summer home.
News 12 is told that in October 2017, the victim relocated to Chicago and that Daskal solicited nude photos and video chats, before allegedly traveling across state lines, using promises of love, to visit the victim for 24 hours.
News 12 is told Daskal allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex with the victim while he was there.
If proven guilty, Daskal faces up to 10 years to life in prison.
